Information We Collect

Information you provide to us

We collect information that you voluntarily provide when you make a purchase, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us. This may include:

• Name and email address
• Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card details)
• Communication preferences
• Your trip start date, if you choose to give it — used only to time planning emails to your trip rather than sending them at random. It is optional, and the rest of the service works without it.
• Any correspondence you send to us

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device and browsing activity, including:

• IP address and approximate geographic location
• Browser type, version, and operating system
• Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation paths
• Referring website or source
• Device identifiers and screen resolution

Anonymous Iceland Co-Pilot activity

The App sends first-party counters for foreground opens, anonymous 30-minute sessions, and the named screen displayed. These events do not include your account, email, order, device or installation identifier, location, map position, or a persistent session identifier. A random event ID is used only to prevent an offline retry from being counted twice.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• Process transactions — to fulfill your purchases of digital map files (KML, GPX, GeoJSON) and deliver them to you
• Communicate with you — to send purchase confirmations, respond to inquiries, and provide customer support
• Improve our Site and App — to understand aggregate use of our content and product screens and optimize the user experience
• Send marketing communications — with your consent, to share updates about new map products and Iceland photography content
• Prevent fraud — to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and protect our users

Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect and track information about activity on our Site. Cookies are small data files placed on your device.

Types of cookies we use

• Essential cookies — required for the Site to function properly, including session management and security
• Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the Site through Google Analytics
• Payment cookies — used by Stripe to process payments securely

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of the Site.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Site. Each service has its own privacy policy governing the use of your information:

Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Order records — including the email address you bought with — are kept for 13 months and then deleted automatically. That period exists so you can re-download your files for at least a year after purchase, which is what we promise at checkout.

Payment records are retained by Stripe under their own policy for accounting and legal compliance. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data follows Google Analytics' retention settings. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing support@icelandphotomap.com.

Anonymous App event IDs expire after approximately 14 days and are retained only for retry deduplication. Daily aggregate App counters contain no account or device identifier and may be retained to compare product usage over time.

Our free open location dataset (CC-BY 4.0) contains only place names, categories, regions and coordinates. It has never contained personal information about visitors or customers.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete information
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions
• Opt-out — unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the link in our emails
• Data portability — request a machine-readable copy of your data

To exercise any of these rights, email support@icelandphotomap.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

The Site is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, or under 16 for visitors in the EU and EEA where a member state has not set a lower age. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child, we will delete it promptly — email support@icelandphotomap.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
