About this tool
How the itinerary builder works and what it does and doesn't include.
- It uses a regional progression matched to your trip length (e.g. Golden Circle → South Coast → East → North → Reykjanes for a 7-day Ring Road), then picks the closest-to-Reykjavík locations in each region that match your selected categories and season. Each location only appears once across the trip.
- No. The free tool produces a plan with location names, regional pacing, and direct links to each location's page. Precise GPS coordinates plus KML/GPX/GeoJSON files for offline use are part of the paid All Maps bundle — load them into Gaia GPS, Google Maps, Garmin, or Locus.
- The builder gives you a starting point — swap in bonus locations from the suggestions below the plan, or visit each location page to read full curation notes and decide. The plan is meant as a scaffold, not a contract.
- That day's card will show a note instead of stops. This is honest by design — padding a Birds-only itinerary with Churches you don't want would waste your driving day. Either broaden your categories, change the season, or use the bonus list to fill the gap.
- Many highland and Westfjords locations are summer-only. The season filter respects each location's recommended window, so a winter itinerary will lean coastal and Ring Road, while a summer one opens up the F-roads.
- Yes — the tool supports 3, 5, 7, 10, and 14-day plans. Most photographers find the 7-day Ring Road sampler or 10-day full Ring Road is the right balance of coverage and driving fatigue.
