How do I import a GPX or KML file of waypoints into Locus Map?
Locus Map imports points from GPX, KML and KMZ, alongside the POI formats its manual lists — LOC, OpenAir, Ov2 and Upi. Start from Menu → Import, or Menu → Points → Import, and choose the folder the waypoints should land in. Locus keeps downloaded maps on the device, so once the Iceland map is in the Offline tab of the Maps manager, the waypoints and the map beneath them both keep working with no connection.
Locus imports points from GPX and KML equally well. Take the GPX if you also carry a Garmin, since one file then covers both; take the KML if you would rather open the same file in Google Earth.
Locus lists offline maps in its Maps manager, filled from the Locus Store, from maps downloaded while you were online, or from files you added yourself. Getting the Iceland map down is a separate job from importing the waypoints, and it is the one to finish before you leave wifi.
What to do
- Download the GPX (or the KML — Locus takes both).
- In Locus Map, open Menu → Import, or Menu → Points → Import, and choose the file.
- Pick the points folder to import into. The dialog also offers to update elevation and to show the points on the map once it finishes.
- Download the Iceland map into the Offline tab of the Maps manager while you still have a connection.

Worth knowing
- GPX and KML land differently when one file carries both a track and its points: Locus imports a GPX track and its waypoints joined together, and imports the two separately from a KML. Our files are waypoints only, so it does not bite here — it will the first time you import a route from somewhere else.
- The import dialog offers to update elevation as the points come in. Ours already carry elevation wherever we are confident of the coordinate, so there is nothing to gain by having Locus recompute it.
